Hanuman Garhi is one of the most famous temples of Lord Hanuman in North India. Hanuman Garhi is located in the center of the Lord Rama's Birth Place City of Ayodhya Uttar Pradesh.The Present temple was built in 10th century and built by Nawab of Awadh.The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.To reach the temple, 76 steps need to be climbed. Land of the temple is believed to have been donated by Nawab of Avadh, on which construction was done during the middle of the 10th century by one of the courtesans of the Nawab.

The temple has the form of a large four-sided fort-like structure with circular bastions at each corner. A massive structure in the shape of a four sided fort with circular bastions at each corner houses a temple of Hanuman and is the most popular shrine in Ayodhya.It is believed that the cave used to be the residence of Hanuman and guarded Ramkot. The temple has a shrine of Goddess Anjani with Hanuman in her lap.At the first look of the deity, one may not be able to see clearly the details of Mata Anjani and Sri Hanuman. Ayodhya, a very holy city located in Uttar Pradesh is an important pilgrimage site. Lord Rama was born and has spent many of his pastimes here. Rama Janma Bhoomi is where Lord Rama was said to have taken birth. There is a small Lord Rama temple here. At this location there used to be the Babri Moseque, which was constructed in the 15th century by the Moghuls. The mosque was destroyed in 1992, and at the present time there are plans to built a grand Rama Temple here. Also known as Saketa in ancient times, Ayodhya is really centuries old. It was the capital of the kingdom of Kosala, of which Rama (the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, the Hindu Preserver of the Universe), the hero of the Ramayana, was the most important king. His story forms the kernel of the Ramayana (for more details see ancient scriptures). Kosala was one of the sixteen great Janpadas (great nations) that ruled the area from the Kabul valley to the banks of the Godavari on the eve of the rise of Buddhism in the 6 th century b.c. Prasenajit was the ruler of the kingdom at that time. Later the Kosala kingdom was swallowed up by the powerful kingdom of Magadha which corresponds to the districts of Patna and Gaya in Southern Bihar.

By Road:Ayodhya is well connected with other places by road, as it is located on the main highway, which runs through the town on the way from Faizabad to Gorakhpur. There are always frequent tempos and buses shuttling along the highway from Faizabad to Ayodhya.

By Rail: Ayodhya doesn’t have a railway station and one can catch trains from Faizabad. Lucknow, Allahabad and Gorakhpur are connected by rail with Faizabad.
