Hatkoti Goddesh is regarded as the most powerful goddess among all the goddesses of northern India by the residents of Hatkoti. They believe that the temple was established by Guru Adi Shankracharya. Some people also believe that the temple was built somewhere in the Third era.
There is no written proof about the history of the temple but as we enter the premises of the temple, the history diverts our minds towards itself, as there are a number of historic monuments in the temple which makes us remember about the Mabharata period. There are five stone Deols present in the temple premises which makes us remember about the five pandavas. These Deols are decreasing in size, first one being the largest in size and then the decreasing ones.
In the building there is a beautiful Lord Shiva temple having a large and beautiful shrine inside it, others idols present in the temple are also a proof a great architecture skills. The interior walls and roof of the temple have also been designed using great architectural skills.

Architecture of Hatkoti Temple 

 Hatkoti is special for the Hindu pilgrims visiting Himachal Pradesh. The Hatkoti Temple is an abode of goddess Mahishasurmardini, an incarnation of goddess Durga or Parvati. The statue of the goddess is 1.2 meters in height and made of eight precious metals. In the dark sanctorum, this idol emits a glow because of its bronze make. The complex also has a separate temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Several other idols inside these two temples stand as examples of great architectural skills. Other structures within the temple complex include a kirtan ghar (prayer room), a dharamshala (rest house) and yagyashala (room for rituals and sacrifices). The Hawan Kund, at the center of the main hall houses idols of Lord Ganesha and Vishnu. There is also another large hall within the temple premises called Satsang Bhawan. It has a seating capacity of around 350 devotees.

Jhakhu temple of lord Hanumanji is situated at the height of about 8500 ft. in the east of historical ridge ground in Shimla city. This temple is very easily approachable and is one of the most sought after site to be visited not only by the devotees and pilgrims but also by the tourists of all age groups visiting Shimla, the Hill capital of Himachal Pradesh.
The temple has an interesting legend behind it. It is said that a deadly arrow injured Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana when he was fighting the battle with the demon king Ravana. A priest diagnosed Lakshmana and said that he needed a particular Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas to cure Lakshmana. Hanuman was sent to get that herb from he lofty mountains. Upon reaching the Himalayas, Hanuman couldn't make out as to which herb was the Sanjeevani. So he dug up the entire mountain and flew back to where Lakshmana was lying injured.
After Lakshmana was cured, Hanuman went back to place the mountain in its original site. He rested on top of the Jakhu hill for sometime. It is said that the top of the hill got flattened due to Hanuman's weight! The temple has been built around the place that is supposed to have the footprints of Hanuman. It is a highly revered religious place of Shimla and devotees throng in huge numbers to pray. The shrine is a hotspot for monkeys who flock here in great numbers and generously accept eatables that are given to them by devotees and tourists.

History of  Jhakhu Temple in Shimla 

One of the main attractions in Shimla is the Jakhu Temple or as it is locally known, the Hanuman Mandir, which is located at Jakhu Hill. The Jakhu Hill is 2 km from the Ridge and at a height of 2500 m is the highest peak in Shimla and offers a beautiful view of the town and of the surrounding Himalaya mountains.

The main deity of worship at the temple is Lord Hanuman This temple of Lord Hanuman was constructed by the sage Yaaku in remembrance of lord Hanuman. The Jakhu temple is one of the most mythologically relevant places in Shimla. Even before you begin the steep climb of 300 mts you can see, a 108ft high orange Lord Hanuman statue standing out majestically from behind the deodar trees. The temple holds several statues and paintings of Lord Hanuman as well as Lord Rama. The temple also has a pair of feet engraved in white marble which devotees believe are of Lord Hanuman. Throughout the day One can hear the ringing bells and devotional music throughout the day here and this add to the divinity of the place. The festival of Dussehra is celebrated at the temple with much aplomb this is one of the best times to visit this holy place.
The temple also has a large amount of monkeys lurking around looking for some food from the visitors, so do be careful not to provoke them.

The famous Bhimakali Temple in Shimla is a very popular tourist attraction. Also known as Bheemakali Temple of Simla, this architectural wonder is one of the representatives of 51 Shakti Peeths. The unique thing about this temple is that the style of architecture used to build it is a unique amalgamation of both Hinduism and Buddhism. It is built of wood and is no less than an architectural masterpiece. Located near the temple are the palaces of the royal families of Shimla.

The Bhimakali temple with its six Silver coated doors is a mixture of both Hindu and Buddhist style of architecture attracts pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The temple of Bhimakali is situated at Sarahan. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali but there are numerous other deities installed in the complex. 

This 800 year old temple is an architectural wonder. It is a perfect blend of Hindu and Buddhist styles of architecture, with beautifully crafted doors and slanting wooden roofs. The temple complex includes three other structures - temples dedicated to Lord Raghunathji, Narsinghji and Patal Bhairvaji. The idol of the main deity, goddess Bhimakali, is housed on the second floor of the main temple. The surrounding region is also stunningly beautiful. Various species of flora and fauna attract visitors from far and near.

 Legends of Bhimakali Temple 

One comes to know of the origin of the temple also through the legends in the "Markandya Purana" and "Durga Shaptshati". Legends say Goddess Durga had promised the 'Devtas' that she would save them from the atrocities of 'Asuras' by re-incarnation. True to her word she decimated the 'Asuras' and became famous by the name of Bhima Devi.
The five-storey Bhimakali temple is situated on a hillock amongst beautiful scenery of gigantic deodar trees. The exquisitely carved wooden sloped roofs are slanting and slightly and concave. These roofs are reminiscent of the Chinese architecture.
There are two temples of Bhimakali. The original temple got tilted hence the second has been constructed in the same architectural style. The statuettes of 'Devis' were installed in the temple in 1962. The one meter Ashtdhatu (alloys of 8 metals) Deity of Goddess surrounded by 'Parikrama Path' on the four sides. Besides this deity are statuettes of numerous deities like 'Chamunda', 'Annpurna', 'Brajeshwari', 'Shiv-Parvati', 'Ganesh', and 'Buddha'. The Devi is decorated with silver plates.
The Bimakali temple attracts a stream of visitors during Navratras. Other major fairs celebrated with gaity and fervour are Janamashtami, Ramnavmi, Makar Sakranti, Shivratri and Diwali. Three day Dussehra fair dedicated to Raghunathji is enthusiastically celebrated with a Rath Yatra.

How to Reach  Bhimkali Temple in Shimla 

By Road : It is 180 kms. from Shimla and 550 Kms from Delhi. Tourists can hire jeeps and taxies which are available at Shimla and Rampur. A number of buses are also available to reach this place. By car Sarahan is six hours from Shimla.The route is on NH -22 upto Jeori, which is 11 kms beyond from Jhakri, from where the road bifurcates to Sarahan.
By Rail : There is no rail service to this place and the nearest railway station at Shimla is connected by a narrow gauge line from Kalka ( 96 kms. )

By Air: The Nearest Airport is Simla.
