The Patan Devi Temple is located in the vicinity,Patna, Bihar.The temple was built in about 18 th century.Patan Devi in Patna is one of the 51 Shakti Pitha in India and is a very sacred holy shrine for the Hindus. It is believed that the right thigh of Devi Sati had fallen here according to the Hindu Mythology, the remaining part fell to 50 other places across the country. The temple enshrines the black stone idols of goddess Kali, Goddess Laxmi, Goddess Saraswati and Bhairav. Badi Patan Devi is the main temple whereas Choti Patan Devi, situated nearby is also very sacred.
Patan Devi also called Maa Patneshwari, is the oldest and one of the most sacred temples of Patna. It is regarded as one of the 51 Siddha Shakti Pithas in India. According to Puranic legends, the 'right thigh' of the corpse of Sati had fallen here when it was chopped off by Lord Vishnu with his 'Sudarshan Chakra'. The ancient temple, originally called Maa Sarvanand Kari Patneshwari, is believed to be the abode of the goddess Durga.
The name of the city Patna is widely believed to have been derived from the name of the Bari Patan Devi Temple. Some however doubt whether the name of Patna is derived from this temple.

The Bari Patan Devi temple is located at Maharajganj, about six miles east from Patna Junction railway station of the Eastern Railway. Gulzarbagh railway station is at a distance of half a mile. The Choti Patan Devi temple is located at Patna City Chowk, about two miles from Patna City railway station of the Eastern Railway. Rickshaws, horse-drawn ekkas, taxis, -etc. are available at Patna, Gulzarbagh and Patna City railway stations.
