Madhyamaheshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at the base of Chaukhamba peak in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state in India. It is the fourth temple of the Panch Kedars (five temples of Lord Shiva). At Madhyamaheshwar, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of navel - shaped lingum. The natural scenery is dramatically wild, with deep gorges and himalayas valleys, mountainsides flung upwards towards the skies, and forests where the snow lies thick in winter, only to be replaced by a carpet of greenery in the summer. Kedarnath and Neelkanth peaks are also visible from here, the entire ring of mountains associated with the life and times of shiva. The confluences of two streams at Gaundar just short of the temple, is one of the prettiest spots in the region.

Legend

Mahabharat's Pandav brothers after the war wanted to see Lord Shiva to seek his pardon for the sins committed by them in the war. But Lord Shiva didn't want to meet them and hence he took the form of a bull. Bhima, the second of the Pandava's brother tried to hold on to the tail and legs of the bull. The bull jumped and vanished at a place( now Guptakashi ) and then reappeard in five different forms:
Hump at Kedarnath
Bahu(arm) at Tungnath
Head at Rudranath
Stomach & Navel at Madhyamaheshwar
Jata at Kalpeshwar
