This temple faces west which is a unique feature for any sun temple as the usual tradition of sun temples is to face east, towards the rising sun. The temple is very old and very well built. It is a mix of nagara art of design and other contemporary art of designs. This temple is considered very auspicious to visit on the festival of Chatth puja / Adra Nakshatra tithi on Sundays. Presently there are three idols (Vishnu, Surya and Avalokitesawara) at the sanctum which are not the original presiding deity.

The structure of the temple follows the Nagar style of architecture prevalent in North India and is simple.The presiding deity here is known as the Thrikal Surya – the forms of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. According to legend, originally the temple faced east. At the invasion of Kala Pahar, he attempted to destroy it. But, the priests stopped him by saying that misfortune would befall him, if the temple was destroyed. Kala Pahar then challenged the priests that the temple should turn west if it was so miraculous. Next sunrise, the temple had miraculously turned facing west. The presiding deity here is known as the Thrikal Surya – the forms of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. He inspired donor like Kishorbhai Patel of Bhuvel and Goregaon and Purushottamdas M Patel of Khanpur and Bhivandi and others to donate. Hence big Sun Temple with other Gods is built.

History of Sun Temple Borsad

This welknown Sun Temple has an unique History. It is built at the instance of God himself. God appeared through body of a boy named Kalpesh aged about 5 months, who was unable to speak. His father and mother were astonished. this incidence is impossible. How it can be cured. Hence God gave proof of it. That is true. God appeared on the body of the boy in form of "kumkum". God appeared and gave "Darshan" to his father Ramanbhai and mother Dahiben in 1972, in form f "kumkum" at Borsad. There after kumkum automatically disappeared.

God gave darshan to Pramukh Swami of Bochasan, Chhote Morari Bapu of Khudheli and Bhagvati Keshav Maharaj of Nadiad.

God inspired Ambalal M. Patel and Haribhai Shantilal Patel of Borsad to donate land for Sun Temple. God inspired the Architect Narendra Patel to make a design of Sun Temple. He also inspired engineer Mahendrabhai Kantharia of Borsad for Engineering God inspired many Donors to donate for Sun Temple. Thid historical Sun Temple is built in Borsad. It was registered as a public trust in 1977 at Nadidad. Another trust is also established in the state of Illinois at Elkgrove village in U.S.A., in 1996. It is named as Suryanarayan Sevashram Trust Fund Corporation. It is non profit organization.

The Sun Temple of Ranchi is a magnificent piece of architecture. Sun Temple is a mammoth vehicle having 18 wheels which is driven by seven horses. The Sun Temple is very much a newly built monument in Jharkhand. It is built around the sacred pond favouring the Chhathavratis in the Chhota Nagpur Plateau region. The structure of temple has been designed with elegance. The temple complex has the shape of a big chariot with eighteen wheels and seven lifelike horses that seem to be ready to take off for the journey. The temple is constructed by a charitable trust named Sanskrit Vihar which is under the leadership of Shri Ram Maroo, the managing director of Ranchi Express. Devotees who visit the Sun temple get mesmerized not only by its beauty but also by the exquisite surrounding which adds glow to its lavish design.

A unique feature of this shrine is that it is designed in the form of a huge chariot with richly decorated 18 wheels (nine on each side) and seven life-like horses in the model of ready to take off. There is a pond in the temple premises, which serves as a sacred place for Chhathavratis (devotees taking part in the festival of Chhath.) The temple is ideally being constructed away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded and noisy city amidst the beauty of nature.
Even the route to reach the Sun Temple in Jharkhand through Ranchi is very beautiful. The route which leads to the temple offers some of the finest picturesque locales of Chhota Nagpur Plateau region.

Ranchi Lake: the lake was excavated by Col. Onsely, a British Agent in the year 1842. Ranchi Lake is centrally situated and is a few minutes walk from GPO and is adjacent to Ranchi Telephone Exchange.

Tagore Hill: the hill is about 3 km. from the Ranchi GPO and is about 300 ft. high. As the hill is associated with legend that the Tagore family, it is known as Tagore Hill. A number of books are supposed to be written by Rabindra Nath Tagore on the top of the hill.

Nakshatra Van: Nakshatra Van is situated near Raj Bhawan and was constructed in the year 2003 by the State Government. It is a Designed Project by the Government in which 27 plants have been planted according to the 27 planets of Astrology Science.

Panch Ghagh: it is located on the way to Simdega via Khunti. It is a beautiful waterfall. It has infact five water falls in a row and therefore called as Panch Ghagh.

Jonha Fall: Jonha is about 40kms away from the city of Ranchi. The road which leads to Jonha is a bit narrow but not as rough, rugged and arduous as that of Hundru.

Modhera is famous for its Sun Temple.The Sun Temple is one of the finest examples of Indian temple architecture of its period. Built in 1026 A.D the temple is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya and stands high on a plinth overlooking a deep stone-steeped tank.

Modhera Sun temple is one of the most famous Sun temples in the world. This temple is an evidence of the glorious ancient history of Gujarat. Tourists and devotees from all around the world visit this place and are spell-bound on seeing the magnificent sculptures and architecture.

Modhera Sun Temple History

Modhera Sun temple was built in 1026 A.D by King Bhimdev (1) of Solanki dynasty. Various scriptures gives different evidences of this fact. This temple depicts the essence of ancient times. The sculptures and architecture present in this temple are still magnificent after all these years. In the present times, prayers are not offered in this temple.

Ala-Uddin-Khilji invaded this temple and broke many idols and sculptures. He looted this temple for money which destroyed this temple to a great extent. This temple is now under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India.

Architecture of Sun Temple Modhera

The brilliant architecture of the temple is one of its own class. The temple encompasses three different yet axially-aligned and integrated constituents. As per the Konark Temple, this shrine is designed in a manner, so that the first rays of the Sun cast on the image of the Lord Surya. The Temple was plundered by Mahmud Ghazni; still the architectural grandeur is not vanished. No matter what is left, yet the remnants provide a great enchantment to behold.

Erected on a high platform, the Temple appears majestic with its grand structure. However, the spires are out of the scene, but the 'Toranas' (Archways) that lead to the main halls overshadow the absence of spires or shikhars. The exterior walls are engraved with intricate carvings, boasting about the mastery of art in those times. Every single inch of the structure is covered with the sculptural patterns of Gods, Goddesses, birds, beasts and flowers. Actually, the Sun Temple is divided into three parts namely Surya Kund, Sabha Mandap and Guda Mandap.

Surya Kund

Surya Kund is a deep stepped tank in the front of the temple. The tank was named after the Lord Surya (Sun God). In the earlier times, this 100 sq meter rectangular tank was used to store pure water. The devotees used to take a halt here for ceremonial ablutions before moving towards the temple. Not less than 108 shrines mark the steps of this tank including the shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Sheetala Mata and many others. In front of this tank, a huge 'torana' (archway) leads to the Sabha Mandap.

Sabha Mandap

Literally, Sabha Mandap refers to an assembly hall where religious gatherings and conferences are conducted. This hall is open from all the four sides and has 52 delicately carved pillars. The intricate carvings depict scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata (Indian Epics) and scenes from the life of Lord Krishna. In order to get into the Sanctum Sanctorum, one has to cross the passage with pillars and arches.

Guda Mandap

Guda Mandap is the sanctum sanctorum that is supported by a lotus-base plinth. Once, this hall used to house the idol of the Sun God. The designing of the hall was done in a way, so that the idol gets the first glimpse of the Sun at equinoxes. However, the idol was plundered by Mahmud Ghazni yet the walls represent the Sun God in his 12 different facets of each month. The carved walls also depict the aspects of human life like the vicious circle of birth and death. The façade of this hall was renovated in the recent years, despite the fact that the roof over the Guda Mandap had already been shattered.

Modhera dance festival is the major festival that is observed by the Sun Temple. This dance festival is organized to keep the Indian traditions and culture alive. It is held in the third week of January every year. The classical dance forms in the premises of this temple revive the imperial ambiance during the period.
