More Information about  Varaha Temple Pushkar 

Varaha Temple is located in Pushkar City Rajasthan India.The temple was built in 125th centuary and built by King Anaji Chauhan. The temple was destroyed by Emperor Aurangazeb but in 1727, it was reconstructed by Raja Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur.It was then rebuilt in the 18th century by Raja Sawai Man Singh II.The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.The temple houses the idol of Lord Varaha that is white in colour and has a hight of two feet.Various sculptures, elegant carvings, life-size statues of door men and gold-styled pillars depicting Garuda, the mythical bird are situated within the temple. 

Lord Varah is third in the Dashavatara, ten principal avatars of Vishnu. When the demon Hiranyaksha stole the earth (personified as the goddess Bhudevi) and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as Varaha to rescue her. Varaha slew the demon and retrieved the Earth from the ocean, lifting it on his tusks, and restored Bhudevi to her place in the universe.

The material of construction of this temple has a strange quality to it that makes it appear a blackish white, unlike pure marble.Statistics say it is one of the most frequented temples in Pushkar by tourists.The boar is Vishnu’s third incarnate form.The back story consists of Vishnu killing a monster to benefit the goddess Bhudevi.

Apteshwar Mahadev temple is located at Main Market Road, Badi Basti, Bank of Pushkar Lake ,Pushkar city of Rajasthan.The temple was built in 12th century and built by Lord Brahma.The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.Here Lord Shiva known as Apteshwar.The temple has a statue of Mahadev with five faces that is entirely made of white marble and is adorned with ornaments. The five faces are named Sadyojat, Vamdev, Aghor, Tatpurush and Ishan. The four faces of Shiva represent the four directions. The fifth face which points skywards is the universal face symbolic of purity and spiritual progress. Also five faces represent five elements Prithvi, Varun, Vayu, Agni and Akash.

The temple is the perfect example of mind-boggling architectural style. After its construction, the temple was totally destructed by Aurangzeb but was well-furnished later on.Hindu mythology provides this belief that on doing so, one’s wishes get granted by the lord. Devotees would also be seen pouring milk, dahi, ghee and honey over Shiva Lingam. Owing to the belief of getting an ideal husband, unmarried girls particularly perform this ritual.

History says that When Brahma performed the yajna at Pushkar, his wife Savitri could not reach the yajna in time. So Brahma performed the pooja with the help of a local girl, Gayatri – who then become the second wife of Brahma. This enraged Savitri and she sulked off to the hilltop. Then the agreement was made that Savitri would always be worshiped first. This tradition still continues, first the aarti is performed at Savitri temple and then at Gayatri temple. Idols of both Savitri and Gayatri are now installed at the Savitri temple.
