Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple located on the foot hills of Nandi Hills. This is said to be the oldest Shiva Parvathi temple is Karnataka. It is built in the Dravidian Architecture style. It is a 1000 year old temple that bears the architectural stamps of around five different dynasties that ruled here.Believed to have been originally constructed by the Bana Queen Ratnavali, this temple was added to and extended by the Ganga dynasty, Cholas, Hoysalas, Pallavas and finally the Vijayanagara kings. This temple even has a statue of the Chola King Rajendra.The temple is enclosed in a huge space known as its praakara measuring 112.8m x 76.2m with two mahadwaras, A pallava and several chola inscriptions are in this courtyard. This complex consists of twin temples dedicated to Shiva as Bhoganandishvara (north) and Arunachaleshvara (south). Between the two is a small intervening shrine. These two temples consists of a garbhagriha, a sukanasi and a navaranga each. Both sukanasi and navaranga are provided with sculptured jails. To the right in the Navaranga of the South Shrine is a curious figure of Ganapathi which is 3 ft high with a small lion face and a lean proboscis. The pillars are plain with only two figures of Dikpalakas and bears the evidence of renovation of this portion. Both temples have individual nandimandapas in front which are inscribed on all its pillars and basement.
